When All Else Fails, Try Midpoints

Midpoints are the halfway points between two planets or other points in a person's horoscope. They are very sensitive and will tick off an event due to a transit or progression over the specific midpoint degree. Most astrology software programs can provide midpoint sorts which will enable you to find these specific points in your horoscope and save you from unnecessary calculations. Reinhold Ebertin, a German astrologer from the Hamberg School is responsible for calling midpoint astrology Cosmobiology.

Midpoints are extremely useful especially when you are unable to find the reason why specific events are occurring in your life at a particular time. If your current astrology software program does not provide midpoint sorts fear not. One solution is to calculate the midpoints the old fashioned way and convert the degrees of the zodiac to 360 degree format.

Example:
Aries = 0 degrees
Taurus = 30 degrees
Gemini = 60 degrees
Cancer = 90 degrees
Leo = 120 degrees

And so on... through the signs until you reach Pisces which is 330 degrees.

Let us pretend that we are trying to find the midpoint between Mars and the Moon in your horoscope. Let us also pretend that your Mars is at 2 degrees of Taurus and your Venus is at 5 degrees of Leo.

The way we convert Mars to 360 degree format is by adding 2 degrees to 30 degrees of Taurus which equals 32 degrees of Taurus. Then in order to convert Venus to a 360 degree format we have to add 5 degrees to 120 degrees of Leo which equals 125 degrees of Leo.

32 degrees of Taurus + 125 degrees of Leo = 157 degrees
next:
157 degrees divided by 2 = 78.7 which would be the equivalent of 18 degrees of Gemini.

The midpoint in this example is the closest midpoint between these two planets but there also a farther midpoint which is 18 degrees of Sagittarius. These two midpoints will be sensitive points for the individual throughout his or her lifetime.

A slash between two planets denotes a midpoint. Let us say that the planet Uranus was right on the Mars/Venus midpoint in a persons chart. It would be written as Uranus=Mars/Venus.
I would recognize this as a person who has the potential to express or experience sudden and unpredictable passions and and affections.

Pick up Ebertin's book, The Combination of Stellar Influences to see these interesting combinations explained. Another way to calculate midpoints is the real easy way by using this handy tool.

So now that you are armed with midpoint basics. I thought I'd share some more of my personal hellish pictures. Needless to say with all my crappy and challenging aspects it would be nice to believe that the heavens are good and would spare me additional stressful midpoint pictures. Silly me what was I thinking. When it rains it pours!

Remember my confrontation with the Nazi a few days ago? Well my natal Mars was right smack on the Sun/Mars midpoint. If that wasn't bad enough the current Saturn/Pluto midpoint
is doing a job on my natal Venus. I'm trying to smile and I can't...I wonder why.

I don't want to sound like a whiner, but I always find that venting is a big help. So if you are having stressful, or even great times and can't figure why, check on your midpoints. You'll be surprised to find them right under your nose.

Midpoints continue to grow on me. It took me a long time to notice that my Sun/Venus midpoint opposes Pluto. That Sun/Venus midpoint forms a very tight T-square with Mars-Pluto square.

Oh dear! Makes for interesting relationships doesn't it? At least now you'll know when it's time to duck.
