The beauty of Dobereiner's system is that the astrologer is able us to watch a life unfold in phases which is exactly the way life is experienced. Viewing a horoscope from this perspective enables the astrologer to understand an individual on a visceral level.

In one chapter of his book Dobereiner explains how easily it can be to predict a trouble spot in a horoscope knowing the location of just one planet. He always begins with a skeleton chart to display his reasoning. For instance, nine times out of ten a person with a Sun located in the tenth house will also have a challenging aspect from another planet in the opposing house or a planet or planets forming a square in house one or seven.
